Stuart, a late 17th century lead Hornbook, 52mm long by 36mm wide, one side with a cross followed by the alphabet in five lines, rev. standing figure of a King wearing a crown, possibly representing Charles II; together with 16th century brass thimbles (3) [4]. Lead hornbooks are fairly simple imitations of larger vellum sheets held together in covers of clear horn. They may be children's toys rather than reading aids
