Republic gold Counterstamped Escudo ND (1849-1857) XF40 NGC, San Jose mint, KM84, Stickney-C431. Displaying Type VII round lion counterstamp with legend HABILITADA PO EL GOBIERNO (XF Standard) on the obverse and reverse of a Central American Republic Escudo 1848 CR-JB (cf. KM14). A very handsome counterstamped type, featuring an accenting charcoal color that functions to provide a clear visual pop to the devices. Mislabeled on the holder as a Type VI countermark.
