UNITED KINGDOM. Victoria, 1837-1901.
Silver crown, 1847. Royal Mint. Proof ("undecimo" on edge).
The so called 'Gothic' crown was never intended for circulation and sold to the public only through official agents, at the time being Hunt and Roskell. It was an immediate success and has always been in high demand, generally held as one of the most beautiful designs British coinage has to offer. This coin has received a lot of attention recently as it is expected to be the next issue in Royal Mint's Great Engravers series. Other mints have already released their versions, pushing up demand for the original issue.
