GREAT BRITAIN. Charles I. 1625-1649. AR medal, cast. 13.89 gm. 42 mm. The Return to London, unsigned (Nicholas Briot). 1633. Charles on horseback wearing armour, rearing left, holding baton and reins, the Eye of Providence at the tip of his sword, a plumed Roman style helmet on the flowery ground below, dated 1633 below / Panoramic view of the City of London from the south bank, showing old St. Paul's, the old covered London Bridge, and ships on the Thames, a radiate sun smiling down overall; AT VRBEM ·:E:· SOL ORBEM REDIENS SIC REX ILLVMIN (As the sun illuminates the world, so too doth the King's return gladden the city). Eimer 124. MI I: 266/62. Extremely Fine; attractively toned, finely designed, holed at 1' behind the king's head, scratch on reverse near edge at 6'. An excellent quality cast, pierced for wearing, though nothing to indicate it was ever worn. A rare and historic piece that is often found holed.

The King had celebrated a Scottish Coronation in Edinburgh on 18 June 1633, however his planned regal procession from the Tower of London to Westminster was cancelled due to an outbreak of plague in the city.
