ROMAN REPUBLICAN. C. Malleolus. 96 B.C. Fourrée denarius. 2.95 gm. 19 mm. Rome mint. Helmeted head of Mars right; mallet above, denomination mark below chin / Warrior standing left, resting foot on cuirass and holding spear; behind him, a tabella divided into two compartments with CM/(AL) in two lines in one, Π retrograde and sideways in the other; trophy in left field. Cf. Crawford 335/3f. Cf. Sydenham 615b. Cf. RSC Poblicia 8. Good Very Fine; good style; well centered and sharply struck; dramatically toned on glossy silver; some scratches; large areas of core exposed on reverse. Impressive fouree. Fascinating piece.
