The reverse portrays an interesting character from ancient Greek mythology, the satyr Marsyas, half man, half goat. He is best known for being flayed alive by the god Apollo for his hubris in a musical contest, "he himself having named this penalty for himself–to be skinned for a wine-sack." (Philostratus the Younger, Imagines 2)
