The Quartett Society was founded in 1845 by Thomas Alsager (1779-1846), co-owner of The Times. Based at the Beethoven Rooms, 76 Harley street, the first ever performance of a complete cycle of Beethoven quartets was performed over a period of two months from mid-April to mid-June and repeated each year from 1846 to 1851. Sold with further background information.
