INDIA: LOT of 47 coins from ancient and medieval India & Sri Lanka, including Ancient: 3 Mauryan punchmark ARs, 1 Maurya-Sunga cast AE (elephant/railed tree type), 1 cast lead piece with Ujjain symbol, 3 AEs of Taxila (including a rectangular horse/elephant type) plus a possible modern copy, 2 Kushan AEs, 1 Yaudheya AE (Pieper-1121), 2 Indo-Sasanian billons; Medieval: 1 Valabhi AR drachm, 2 Kumaragupta AR drachms and 1 copper, 4 Gadhaiya paisa types (one with mint luster!), 4 horseman/bull type AR jitals and 8 debased later examples, 1 Ghorid AE jital of Muhammad b. Sam, 1 Qarlughid AE jital of Nasir (A-1819, VF-EF with choice patina), plus 4 others pieces; Others: 4 Ceylon coppers of various Polonnaruwa rulers, plus 4 Chola coppers; average circulated conditions, the majority quite worn but with many nice pieces VF or better; acquired by the consignor in the late 60's and attributed on accompanying holders; retail value $670, lot of 47 pieces.
