Complete Set of Sartiges Collection Plates with Supplement
Sartiges, Vicomte de. COLLECTION DU VICOMTE DE SARTIGES. SERIES GRECQUES ET ROMAINES EN 1910, AINSI QUE LES ACQUISITIONS DEPUIS CETTE DATE. Paris: D.A. Longuet, no date. Complete with the Supplément. 4to, original folding blue-green cloth box with original ties mostly intact; red spine label lettered in gilt; large red label on upper cover, lettered in gilt. (52) pages; 48 very fine plates of ancient Greek and Roman coins, depicting 550 pieces. Box worn, with joint between spine and front cover split; internally fine. The best edition, with a printed title, additional text, and five added plates. One of a very limited number, produced for private distribution. The Greek coins were sold by private treaty; the Roman coins were sold as part of the final Ars Classica sale. This later issue with the five supplementary plates is rarely encountered. The first edition, with 43 plates and printed tissue guards is also offered occasionally (the set in the Kreindler library brought $950 hammer).
