The Brothers Furger Sale of 1899
Helbing, Otto. AUCTIONS-CATALOG ENTHALTEND DIE SAMMLUNG DER HERREN GEBRÜDER FURGER IN CHUR. MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN DER SCHWEIZ. München, 20. November 1899 und folgende Tage [postponed to 22.–24. November 1899]. 4to, contemporary blue cloth-backed mottled boards, gilt; original printed paper covers bound in. 51, (1) pages; 1319 lots; 3 fine plates; original printed prices realized list bound in. Occasional notations. Pages somewhat browned, but near fine. A rarely offered Helbing sale of Swiss coins. The prices realized list indicated that the sale actually took place on November 22–24, 1899. While the Helbing firm traces its roots to 1878, most of the auction catalogues issued under the name of Otto Helbing post-date his retirement in 1912. The back cover of this catalogue provides us with a listing of Helbing's early catalogues available for sale. The firm was run in later years by Heinrich Hirsch, Willy Schwabacher and Gerhard Hirsch until the Nazi era, during which management was assumed by Karl Kreß.
