China
Qing Dynasty. Daoguang Chekiang (Zhejiang) Dixingding ("Mound") Sycee of 5 Taels Year 6 (1826), cf. Cribb-Class XLIII.A, Tang-pp. 311-334, Tai, Sycee Online, Ck5/1-14. 47mm. 179.72gm. Stamped in three sections, the right column reading: "Yong Mao" (a place name in Chekiang Province), the left column reading: "Jing Ning" (Jingning County), and the column below the nipple reading: "Liu Nian" (Sixth Year). By all indications an exceptionally scarce date for this already very rare type, with this being the first such example we have presented. While Tang Guo Yan lists 24 pages of illustrations of this type, interestingly none seem to carry this same date. Also worthy of note is the fact that whereas Cribb states that, though such ingots do not provide the period of their dating they can be firmly adduced to the Daoguang Period, Tai attributes those on his website to the Kuang-hsü Period. Of great importance to collectors of the series, and an offering that demands close bidder attention.
