China
Qing Dynasty. Kuang-hsü Yunnan Fangcaoding? ("Square Trough") Sycee of 7 Taels ND (19th-20th Century), cf. Cribb-F44. 64x25mm. 249.49gm. Stamped in three columns, the right reading: "Guang Xu Yin Ke" (Silver tax of the Kuang-hsü Period), the left reading: "Yun Nan Sheng Zao" (Made in Yunnan Province"), and the center reading: "Zheng Zhuang Zu Yin" (Correct shop pure silver). A highly peculiar shape, seemingly unlisted by Cribb or Tang. Though the specimen see here matches the description of the stamps on Cribb's F44 (his stamps 5, 9B, and 16), the splayed ends of the face are quite different from the Class LVIII Guangdong Fangcaoding that he states serves as the host of the forger's stamps. Sold as is, no returns.
