China
Qing Dynasty. Xian Feng (Wen Zong) Yunnan Yuanbao? ("Principle") Sycee of 8 Taels Year 1 (1851), cf. Opitz-pg. 325 (similar shape, though heavier weight), Cribb-Class XIV.A (for similar ingots of Hubei, though with heavier weight), Tang-1560 (for heavier weight from Kuang-hsü's reign). 62x34mm. 283.74gm. Stamped in three sections, the right column reading: "Xian Feng Yuan Nian" (First year of Xian Feng), the left column reading: "Yun Nan Sheng Zao" (Made in Yunnan Province), and the central stamp reading: "Zheng Zhuang Zu Yin" (Correct shop pure silver). A seemingly lesser-seen sycee type, and one that does not appear to be documented by Cribb. While the overall shape of the ingot is quite similar to Cribb's Class XIV (Hubei Yuanbao) (see our Auction #3077, December 2019, Lot 38058), the size of that type is typically much larger (24 to 53 Taels), was not known to Cribb after Daoguang's reign, and are frequently stamped with the names of different trading ports.
