Oliver Cromwell (d.1658), white metal pattern Broad of Twenty Shillings, 1656, engraved by Thomas Simon, laureate head left, legend and toothed border surrounding, OLIVAR. D. G. R.P. ANG. SCO. ET. HIB. &c PRO. rev. crowned quartered shield of arms of the Protectorate, date either side of top crown, .PAX. QVÆRITVR. BELLO., edge plain, 5.28g (cf. Schneider 367; cf. WR 39; cf. S.3225). Lustrous within the recesses of the legends and design, some light scratches in reverse field, about as struck, very rare.

Possibly a trial piece struck from fresh dies in advance of the final issue in gold, extremely rare thus.
