(t) CHINA--REPUBLIC. Lot of (2). Central Bank of China. 500,000 Yuan, ND (1949). P-Unlisted. PMG Uncirculated 62 & Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
(S/M#C302). An interesting combination for a "what if" design from the American Bank Note Company for the 1949 Gold Yuan series. This ultra high denomination proof set offers the front proof in an Uncirculated 62 grade and the back proof in an Choice Unc 63Q grade. The front proof depicts a portrait vignette at left of Sun Yat-sen with a guilloche reminiscent of a bowtie at right of center. The back proof displays a vignette of a small bridge over water with vegetation in the background and a small shack at left. The number "500,000" can be counted ten times on the back, perhaps to instill confidence in the value of the note to the public if issued. The bank name is seen at top and "Five Hundred Thousand Gold Yuan" is displayed at bottom.
Estimate: $3000 - $4000
