Obverse: Crowned coat-of-arms of the Netherlands and family arms of the Tokugawa surmounted by billowing banner; all between dates of the first Dutch VOC delegation to Japan (1609) and that of the Japanese delegation to the Netherlands (1862); Reverse: Japanese legend professing "closeness and understanding" between the two nations. Edge: Plain. A fairly SCARCE medal when encountered this choice and dazzling, the present piece features light brown surfaces with a delightful olive nature and incredible brilliance when cradled back and forth. Quite enticing and deserving of in hand inspection for all of its splendor.
