PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, EF Details.
KM-74; Basso-55; PNM#6-Not listed; PNM#16-100; PNM#21-Not listed; Cacho-Not listed; Gil-5-4-1-C. Type V Countermark, crowned F.7.0 within circular indent. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1825-Do RL Mexico Republic 8 Reales. This popular mint always draws attention, the early dates are scarce to VERY RARE and seldom appear on the market. We have only two documented examples of this date, both exhibit the 5-4-1-C crown variety. This lovely example boasts great eye appeal displaying rich gray patina with a plethora of iridescent hues that accentuates that design features. Close inspection reveals a thin old pin scratch on the reverse accounts for the detail's designation, now blended quite nicely and subdued. Despite its shortcoming this handsome example is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $500 - $700
