PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS EF-40, C/M - AU Details.
KM-A130; Basso-56- PNM#6-146; PNM#16-322; PNM#21-VIII-132; Cacho-IX-CS-067; Gil-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1833-Pi JS Mexico republic 8 Reales; Normal date variety. Issues from this mint are always popular with collectors and seldom appear on the market. We have documented on four examples of this this date with two different crown varieties. The countermark is boldly applied on a nice-looking host coin that displays lovely rich slate patina with an iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light. This wholly original survivor offers a pleasing appearance sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $700 - $1000
