PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS VF-30, C/M - XF Details.
KM-Not listed; Basso-56; PNM#6-Not listed; PNM#16-308; PNM#21-VIII-122; Cacho-IX-CS-082; Gil-5-4-1-II. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1832-Mo JM Mexico Republic 8 Reales. For a late date from this mint, this date is surprisingly RARE. We have only two documented examples with two different crown varieties. The countermark is boldly applied to clear definition of the fine details on an attractive evenly worn host displaying attractive light gray patina with areas of richer coloration amongst the devices.
Estimate: $600 - $800
