HONG KONG. 5 Cents, 1885/5. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-65.
KM-5; Mars-C8. Repunched Date variety. Stunningly toned over most of the surfaces with a small area of brilliance in the reverse centers. Upon inspection with a loupe, the 5 digit in the date shows obvious northeasterly repunching. Further study against others that have sold suggest this attribute is RARE, as no others that have appeared in auction in recent years have displayed this characteristic. As such, an ideal coin for the collector specializing in high grade Hong Kong coinage and its varieties.
