CHINA. Silver 50 Cents Pattern, Year 3 (1914). PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
L&M-68; K-655a; KM-Pn27; WS-0170; Wenchao-pg. 537#861 (rarity three stars); Shanghai Museum-Mr. Shi Jiagan's collection-pg. 139#639; Sun-III-2-17; Shih-D1-4. Choice for the assigned grade, this "L. GIORGI" signed pattern exhibits strong reflective qualities in the fields with attractive flares of copper, blue and magenta tone that concentrate over the obverse surfaces. VERY RARE and extremely desirable as a type.

Designed by the prolific die engraver and head of the Tientsin mint from 1910 to 1920, Luigi Giorgi, and though not his first design with the effigy of Yuan Shih-kai, this would ultimately become the adopted design of the new national coinage which was first emitted on Christmas of 1914 from the newly rebuilt mint in Tientsin which had burnt down in 1912.

Estimate: $40000 - $80000
