(t) CHINA. Dollar, ND (1916). Tientsin Mint. PCGS MS-65.
L&M-942; K-663; KM-Y-332; WS-0097. Variety with reeded edge, no signature, and horizontal on dragon's right wing visible. Struck for the inauguration of Yuan Shih-kai (soon to pass away in June 1916) as the Hung Hsien Emperor, this majestic and ever-popular "flying dragon" Dollar type presents considerable frosty brilliance and luster that knows no bounds. A hint of deeper color is evident, but only at portions of the extreme peripheries. Compare to a similar example--also a PCGS MS-65--that realized a total of $180,000 [!] in our April 2021 Hong Kong auction (lot # 52322).

From the Ta Han/MCC Collection.

Estimate: $70000 - $100000
