(t) CHINA. Anhwei. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 24 (1898). NGC AU-55.
L&M-199; K-57; KM-Y-45.3; WS-1076; Wenchao-708. Variety with "A.S.T.C." in field, Tall "Si" in date. This lovely survivor exhibits boldly struck devices with plenty of remaining luster in the protected areas displaying light attractive mottled patina with richer coloration near the edges. This original looking example offers good eye appeal and is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
It is interesting to point out that Wenchao suggests the meaning of the "ASTC" on the reverse is actually "TASC" being an abbreviation of "TATSING AN-HWEI SILVER COIN", meaning "Anhwei silver coin of the Great Qing".
Estimate: $10000 - $15000
