(t) CHINA. Chingkiang-Chekiang. 10 Cash Mule, ND (1905). NGC EF-45.
CL-TK.03 (plate coin); KM-Unlisted; Woodward-Mule Obverse F (under Chinkiang [character side])/Reverse 2 (under Chekiang [dragon side]); CCC-unlisted; Duan-unlisted. The reverse is the Chingkiang small character variety coupled with the standard Chekiang obverse design featuring the water dragon. Highly interesting and EXTREMELY RARE 10 Cash of two different provinces. According to CL there are possibly only two examples known of this type; one from the Dr. Norman Jacobs collection (the present piece) and one from the Yaksi collection. A well struck and moderately worn survivor displaying smooth chocolate brown surfaces with areas of cinnamon atop of the high points, minor encrustation amongst the devices lending to its originality. The interprovincial 10 Cash are a real treat for the specialist studying mint practices and possible origins of particular issues sure to see spirited bidding from advanced collectors.
