(t) CHINA. Fukien. 10 Cash, CD (1906). PCGS MS-64 Brown.
cf. CL-FK.29; KM-Y-10f; CCC-40; Duan-Not listed; Woodward-Not listed. Variety where the bottom strokes of Wen do not touch to the top flat stroke; Double die obverse and reverse. This attractive looking example boasts a bold strike with sharp design elements and smooth silky surfaces with much original mint red amongst the devices. This handsome survivor is pleasing to the eye with interesting characteristics not normally encountered on this issue and is sure to pique the interest of advanced collectors of this province.

It is important to point out what sets this piece apart from other examples is the fact that both the obverse and reverse exhibit evidence of doubled dies, most noticeable on the right side of the obverse in the upper claw, the dragon's tail and the clouds between as well as "COIN" in the outer legend. On the reverse the doubled die is noticeable in the two Manchu and Han characters on the right side. Another interesting facet is that the specialized reference material on struck Cash coinage lists few die pairings for this issue (Woodward: 3 sets of dies; CL: 2 sets of dies; Duan: 6 sets of dies), but do not list the dies of the present example. A real treat for the specialist of the struck 10 Cash series.

Estimate: $700 - $1000
