(t) CHINA. Kiau Chau. Nickel Plated Brass 10 Pfennig Token, ND (ca. early 20th Century). PCGS MS-63.
Menzel-4287.1.2.Tied for the finest certified by PCGS. Obverse: uniformed bust facing forward; Reverse: P.H. in center, "WERT-MARKE 10 PFG." ("good for 10 pfennig") around. Bright and lustrous, this handsome example displays brilliant surfaces with a thin veneer of champagne tone and areas of richer gray patina on the high points. This attractive survivor is pleasing to the eye and in the opinion of this cataloger is nicer than normally encountered.
Made in Berlin as a token for the German colony of Kiau Chau, which fell to the Japanese in 1914.
Estimate: $3000 - $5000
