(t) CHINA. Kirin. 3 Mace 6 Candareens (50 Cents), ND (1898). PCGS AU-58.
L&M-517; K-297; KM-Y-182.1. Six rows of scales. This bright and flashy survivor exhibits a good strike with much remaining brilliance on the obverse while the reverse displays more satiny surfaces. Light attractive tone is noticed near the edges adding to its pleasing appearance and originality.

It is of special interest to the academic collector of this province to point out several observations about this piece. The "K" of "Kirin" appears to be over an upside down "ʞ" that is in retrograde. Other aspects are the use of the same broken "R" punch in the legend and that all three "N" punches are completely different. Neither "Sheng" or "Kuang" are hooked or dotted, but rather appear to have more a of an inverted right comma (') like stroke.

Estimate: $2000 - $3000
