(t) CHINA. Kweichow. Auto Dollar, Year 17 (1928). PCGS Genuine--Repaired, AU Details.
L&M-610; K-757r; KM-Y-428; WS-1110. Variety with three grass blades. This nicely preserved example exhibits a bold strike with well-formed devices with hints of luster in the protected areas displaying light attractive mottled gray patina. Close inspection reveals a slight surface disturbance in the lower right quadrant of the reverse which appears to account for the detail's designation of "Repaired", but was done so tastefully long ago now toned over matching the rest of the coin. Despite its shortcomings this survivor is pleasing to the eye sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
Zhou Xicheng was the provincial warlord governor of Kweichow from July of 1927 through April of 1929. Although his time in office was short, Xicheng focused heavily on education and modernizing of the province through public works. This fascinating issue was minted to commemorate the completion of the Kweichow (Guizhou) provincial highway and reportedly features Governor Zhou Xicheng's personal automobile.
Estimate: $30000 - $40000
