CHINA. Kweichow. "Bamboo" Dollar, Year 38 (1949). PCGS EF-45.
L&M-612; K-758; KM-Y-433; WS-1112. Variety with round window. An exceptional and wholly enticing RARITY in the Republican series, this "bamboo" Dollar (so-called on account of the stalks of bamboo upon the reverse) is very seldom seen in the market, and even less so this wholesome and pleasantly toned. The obverse displays a detailed Chinese pavilion and, paralleling the hidden iconography of its predecessor, the ever-popular "auto" Dollar, this piece displays a small character "Gu" in the doorway, thus serving as a reference to then-governor Gu Zhenglun, while "T L K" appears just below it in block lettering, blending in well with the foundation of the pavilion and likely serving as a nod to the coin's engraver. Undoubtedly, a specimen that will generate tremendous enthusiasm as a must-have for the connoisseur.
Estimate: $100000 - $200000
