KM-175; Gomes-52.04. Jose I died in February of 1777, but the present coin still displays his likeness as rupias featuring the new rulers Maria I and Pedro III would not be manufactured until 1782. Somewhat crudely stuck, as is the norm for the issue, but excellently preserved light gray surfaces show only small patches of wear on the high points.
