PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Bolivia. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Fine Details, C/M - VF Details.
KM-100; Basso-56; PNM#6-Not listed; PNM#16-179; PNM#21-VIII-11; Cacho-Not listed; Gil-5-4-1-II. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1830-PTS L Bolivia Republic 8 Soles; Single letter assayer. This sneaky host date is quite SCARCE, especially so bearing the single assayer's letter. For this date with the single assayer's letter, we have only two documented examples, both 5-4-1-II crown variety. The countermark decently applied, though slightly uneven, on a well-worn host displaying rich gray patina. Close inspection reveals evidence of being cleaned long ago, now subdued and pleasing to the eye. Despite its shortcomings this presentable example is great the academic collector on a budget seeking rare and unusual host coins.
Estimate: $100 - $200
