PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Corrosion Removed, EF Details, C/M - XF Details.
KM-Not listed; Basso-56; PNM#6-Not listed; PNM#16-224; PNM#21-VIII-133; Cacho-IX-CS-091; Gil-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1833-Zs OM Mexico Republic 8 Reales. One of the more abundant dates from this mint, we have nine recorded as hosts with five different crown varieties. The countermark is boldly applied on a decently looking host. The surfaces do exhibit several natural planchet flaws and a couple small areas of surface granularity which accounts for the detail's designation. Despite its shortcoming this handsome and richly toned survivor is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
Estimate: $400 - $600
