PHILIPPINES. 4 Pesos, 1863. Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Harshly Cleaned, AU Details.
Fr-1; KM-144; Basso-70. This decently preserved example boasts a good strike with slightly rusty dies displaying a pale golden coloration. Close inspection reveals evidence of past cleaning, now slightly subdued. Despite its shortcomings this handsome survivor offers a pleasing appearance and is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Though not notated on the PCGS insert the last two digits of the date exhibit evidence of being over other digits. The "6" appears to be over a "5", but it is unclear what the "3" is over. According Aldo P. Basso, this date comes as a clean date and re-engraved date. The obverse does show evidence of die rust and is suggestive of a old die. A interesting example for the specialist sure to add depth to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $300 - $400
