PONTIF TR P X COS I Caracalla standing facing, head right, holding reversed spear and parazonium; at feet to left, rivergod reclining on urn to right; to right, two reclining figures seated left, the closer of the two Britannia, the further, a second rivergod. Cohen 441. RIC 96. Rare and interesting reverse type. Nicely toned. About extremely fine.

From a North American collection.

The rivergods depicted on at the feet of Caracalla on the reverse probably are meant to depict the rivers Eden and Tyne, which flow below Hadrian's Wall for much of its length.
