Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 16.5 mm, 1.62 g, 12 h), Siscia, A = 1st officina, 335-336. CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine to right. Rev. GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS / ASIS Two soldiers standing facing, each holding spear and looking towards each other; between, labarum with Christogram on banner. RIC 252. well centered, and with a dark brown patina. Good very fine.
From the Berliner collection, formed between 1970s and early 2000s.
Very rare early depiction of the Christogram, struck during the lifetime of Constantine the Great. It looks like someone in the 1st officina of Siscia was a huge supporter of the new religion.
