CARIA. Syangela. Early 4th century BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.95 g, 7 h). Head of Dionysos to left, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΣYA Kantharos; to right, inverted grape bunch on vine with leaf; all within incuse square. Cf. Yarkin 1. Cf. SNG Keckman 264 (quarter drachm). See Künker 226, 2013, 494 for an example struck from the same dies. Extremely rare - the fourth known drachm of Syangela. Porous, otherwise, very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, ex Hirsch 212, 22. November 2000, 216.

The early drachms of Syangela are extremely rare and known from just four specimens: this coin which shares its dies with another example sold by Künker (cited above); the drachm published by Yarkin ("The Coinage of Syangela in Caria", NC 1975, no. 1) but with the kantharos between two bunches of grapes; and another drachm with the kantharos and grapes transposed which was sold in CNG 99, 2015, 267.
