PISIDIA. Etenna. Marcus Aurelius(?), 161-180. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 17 mm, 5.82 g, 12 h). [...]M A AYΓ Α[...] Laureate head of Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. ΕΤΕΝΝΕωΝ Nude youthful male figure (the hero Sylvester?) standing facing, raising right hand to mouth; to left, ram standing left. Cf. RPC IV.3 Online temp. 7744 (as Lucius Verus). Cf. Von Aulock, Pisidiens II 538-9 (as Lucius Verus). Green patina. Very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, acquired from Acropolis-Burbulis on 16 October 1999.

While the portrait is clearly that of Lucius Verus on the examples illustrated in Von Aulock, Pisidiens II, the obverse legend as it is recorded there (ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ Λ ΟΥΗΡΟϹ CEΒ) cannot be correct. The legend on this coin seems nearly identical to that, except that it contains the letters M and A behind the head, thus our attribution to Marcus Aurelius. There are no known coins of Marcus Aurelius with this reverse type recorded by either Von Aulock or the authors of the RPC.
