THRACE. Byzantion. Circa 3rd century BC. (Bronze, 22 mm, 7.10 g, 12 h), host coin struck under the magistrate Asopios, then countermarked to be used in Byzantion and Kalchedon, c. 260-246. Head of Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath; at the base of the neck, countermark bearing a helmet in square frame. Rev. BYZANTI EΠI AΣΩΠIOY Poseidon standing facing, head left, holding Nike and trident; countermark of a corn ear with leaf to right punched on lower field. SNG BM Black Sea 67 (with these same countermarks). Dark brown patina. Nearly very fine.
