THESSALY, Thessalian League. 2nd-1st centuries BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 5.60 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrates Philon and Hippoloxos. Head of Zeus to right, wearing oak wreath. Rev. ΘΕΣΣΑ / ΛΩΝ Athena Itonia striding to right, hurling spear with her right hand and extending shield in her left; above spear, ΦΙΛ-ΩΝ and star; in exergue, ΙΠΠΟΛΟΧΟΣ. BCD Thessaly II 869.1. HGC 4, 208. Tiny scratch on cheek, deposit on reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
