PAPHLAGONIA. Sinope. Circa 330-300 BC. Drachm (Silver, 21 mm, 5.90 g, 9 h), probably a contemporary imitation, with a garbled magistrate's name. Head of the nymph Sinope to left, her hair bound in a sakkos and wearing a triple pendant earring and a pearl necklace; before her to left, aplustre. Rev. Hxxx / SΙΝΩ Sea-eagle with spread wings standing on dolphin swimming to left. Cf. HGC 7, 391-2. SNG BM Black Sea -. SNG Stancomb -. Boldly struck and well-centered. Porous, otherwise, good very fine.
A most interesting contemporary imitation or copy, but of very good style, albeit with garbled lettering.
