The obverse legend is from the third verse of the World War I poem, "In Flanders Fields", by the Canadian officer, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. The lines would have been familiar to George Rayner Hoff (1894–1937), a British-born sculptor who mainly worked in Australia and who sculpted many War Memorials.
The Architects Medallion has been awarded annually since 1924 to a graduate of the Masters of Architecture course.
