These coins were struck for colonial use in Africa. The other heavier version was struck in zinc and it is normally about 4.2‑4.8g in weight. The issue of this coin was authorized by the French government during its period of exile in London, only a handful are in existence today, and it is so scarce that some consider it to be the greatest French rarity since the Napoleonic period.
