Struck on the occasion of capture of Mulher (Aurangnagar) by the Mughals, under Aurangzeb 1st tenure as the
Viceroy of Deccan. This coin is historically signifi cant and a great rarity. 'Aurangnagar' was the name given by
Aurangzeb to the town of Mulher with its adjoining hill fort, presently located in Nashik district of Maharashtra,
which was the capital of the small Rajput kingdom of Baglana, strategically located on the trade route between
Surat and the Deccan. Aurangzeb, while in offi ce as the Viceroy of Deccan under his father the Emperor Shah
Jahan I pursued a campaign against the rebellion of Shahaji Bhonsle. The Mughal army stormed the lower fort
was the Raja and his family resided. The Raja surrendered the town of Mulher to the Mughal Empire and it was
renamed as Aurangnagar.
