The non‐portrait Canterbury types of Aethelwulf are fastened to five main moneyers; Diar, Herebeald,
Manna, Osmund and Torhtwald. The Rochester Episcopal types are similar in style, with two main
differences. They tend to read Aetheluuf with an A as opposed to an E, the second most distinguishing
factor is the reverse inscription reads OCCIDENTALIUM, (SCBI 67 [Naismith], 1107-1114) as opposed
to a moneyer's inscription (SCBI 67, 1097‐1105). The Dorking Hoard example is an exception, in that the
obverse legend does commence with an +ΛE for ΛEÐELVVLF as opposed to beginning with a EÐ for
EÐELVVLF still signed by moneyer Torhtweald (SCBI 67, 1106).
