Burgred (852‐874), King's of Mercia, Penny, Type A, lunettes unbroken, moneyer Berheah diademed
bust right breaking inner linear circle, legend surrounds from 8 o'clock BVRGRED REX, legend starts
at 8 o'clock, double-diademed and draped bust right, vertical and horizontal bars to tunic, annulet eye
and wedge lips. Rev, in three lines MON|+BERNEA|ETA:., 1.40g (S.940a; N.423; MacKay, plate 5, 117).
A fully centred strike on a round flan, legends clear both sides, all the main lines of the portrait visible, uneven
toning. Under close inspection an impressive example. Very fine. Ex. Lloyd Bennett (dealer), purchased January 2010.
