George III, London, Cabbage Society (Jewish Club?), Copper penny token 1796 by an uncertain
manufacture. Caulifl ower, Rev. PURIM and date around six-petalled fl ower, edge grained over 'an
asylum for the oppress'd of all nations', 33mm., 16.96gm. (DH 227a; W 1756). Good Extremely Fine and
att ractively patinated, metal fl aw (impurity?) on rev. Rare. £200-£300

It is possible that this piece and the next may have a connection with a society of Jewish tradesmen who met in
rooms in Paternoster Row, underneath a cabbage painted on the ceiling.
