A Rare, Quatre Bras, Casualty Waterloo Medal awarded to Francis Mayon, 3rd Batt alion Grenadier
Guards who served in Lieutenant Colonel's Staple's Company and was wounded on the 16th of June
1815 at Quatre Bras. Waterloo Medal 1815, (Francis Mayon, 3rd Batt . Gren Guards.), fi tt ed with steel
clip and ring suspension, very fi ne. £2,000-£3,000
Francis Mayon, (Shown as Mahon in the Waterloo Medal Roll) was born in Walcot, Bath in Somerset, in
c.1789, he enlisted into the Grenadier Guards on the 4th of May 1809 in Bath giving his age as 20 years
and his occupation as a Stone Mason. He served as a Private in Lieutenant Colonel Colquitt 's Company
of the 2nd Batt alion Grenadier Guards and was present in Lieutenant Colonel Stable's Company of the
3rd Batt alion where, on the 16th of June 1815, Private Mayon was wounded at the crossroads of Quatre
Bras.
At Quatre Bras on the 16th of June 1815 the Light Companies of the Grenadier Guards were heavily
involved in the fi ghting in Bossu Wood, during the three days of fi ghting from the 16th to the 18th of
June 1815 the 3rd Batt alion suff ered 604 casualties from 1021 men present.
