India General Service Medal 1854-95, one clasp Jowaki 1877-8 awarded to Private George Barber2nd

George Barber was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, in c. 1852, a sailor by trade who enlisted into the
Norfolk Militia on the 31st of December 1873 and was Att ested for the 2nd Batt alion 9th Foot. He served
Home 1st of January 1874 to the 22nd of October 1874, East Indies 23rd of October 1874 to the 9th of
January 1881, Home 10th of July 1881 to the 30th of April 1882 when he was discharged, he re-engaged
on the 31st of August 1882 but was discharged Medically unfi t for further service on the 17th of October
1882 having served 8 years 290 days. His papers state he was entitled to the "North West Frontier Medal
for Jowaki" and the Medal for Afghanistan.
