Queen's South Africa Medal, 3rd type, no clasp awarded to Stoker Charles Briggs, H.M.S. Monarch, (C.
Briggs, Sto., H.M.S. Monarch.), very fi ne. £80-£120
Charles Briggs was born on the 5th of July 1876 in Lincolnshire, a Labourer by trade. He enlisted for the
Royal Navy on the 3rd of January 1896 for 12 Years serving on 16 ships including H.M.S. Monarch from
the 10th of November 1901 to the 1st of April 1904. He was discharged on the 29th of February 1908 but
re-engaged on the 2nd of December 1914 for "Hostilities Only" he was discharged to shore on the 5th
of May 1915 Invalided with Tuberculosis.
