Edward IV (1461-1470) Groat, Cross fleury/Rose – mule. London type, hammered heavy coinage. Group I and II (mule) (N 1529/1531, S 1969/1972, Whitton 1a/II; Stewartby p327). Crowned, facing bust within tressure, fleur-de-lis on breast, reverse long cross over two circular legends, groups of 3 pellets in each angle, 3.87g. Extremely Fine, strongly struck, lightly toned. The coinage was reduced in weight only three years after Edward came to the throne, so these heavier groats are rare. Also this coin is in such very good condition and so strong a strike. Very pleasing and virtually unbeatable example.
